Summer Camp Tech Fun at Home!
Keeping your little inventor busy over the summer holidays can be a tall order, especially if they’re looking to keep learning outside of the classroom or a holiday camp, but all hope is not lost! Whilst we can keep the little ones occupied for some of the summer, here’s what we recommend for keeping their inquisitive brains active.
CODING GAMES:
- Minecraft – we’ll give them an introduction to coding with Minecraft at our camps, but that’s not where the education has to end – soon your scientist will be building games within games
- Scratch – it is the ideal coding tool for beginners, where kids can learn to create their own games and there is also Scratch Jr, for younger children aged 5-7
- Kidlocoding – this platform features a range of engaging and interactive coding based games for your kids to play with and learn coding fundamentals in the process
TECH EXPERIMENTS:
Left Brain Craft Brain has a range of fun DIY tech experiments that will keep your kids occupied and their minds engaged, there’s an endless catalogue of tech and engineering based crafts to browse
Geek Pack Hack allows you to bring your child’s big dreams home with more tech projects like a homemade hovercraft, a solar powered fountain, or even a robot!
Next Thing Education STEM Boxes are launching in September, you can bring the NTE fun back with you long after camp with our monthly STEM boxes, bringing you a different invention to build with every box
YOUTUBE FUN:
- Crash Course/Crash Course Kids, created by Youtubers Hank and John Green, the educational channel features a number of Computer Science, Engineering and AI video courses for children
- The Backyard Scientist, this Youtuber explores the crazy side of science in a way that’s sure to get your child’s imagination running wild and foster an interest in the STEM field – however we advise that not all of his experiments should be tried at home
- Mystery Science, this is the channel for your inquisitive child asking all the big questions. Mystery Science intends to demystify Science for children by posting short video explanations to the big questions they may have about science in an accessible manner
Learning doesn’t have to stop at the summer and it doesn’t have to be a chore either, visit one of our tech camps near you or keep up to date with our blog to make STEM accessible for all children.
